It’s been a while

I can’t believe we are almost in the end of May!!! Where did time go?

I’ve been attending few ceramic programs, one at Harvard and one in Italy.

The new programs I’m taking at Harvard will start in June and I can’t wait to explore all the possibilities. One program is focusing on “why not”, which means I am beyond excited to start exploring many ideas that I have in mind. The other one focus on surface decoration and will introduce me to new techniques that I hope will bring opportunities to explore glazing and depth.

In Italy I am discovering more about who I am as an artist. We are a small group of women with a phenomenal teacher. Some of the pieces I’ve developed in the last couple of months have been the result of this program. I will talk more about this when the right time comes. For now, I am really enjoying learning more about myself and what is important to me when I create my pieces.

Early in May I participated at the Show & Sale event organized by the Harvard Ceramic Program. What a great experience! We were more than 100 artists and I felt like a kid on a candy shop! I am so happy with the pieces I sold there! If you are one of the people who took a piece home, thank you for supporting me and the Harvard program! 40% of the sales went to support scholarships, materials and equipment to the program. And yes, I also bought pieces from other artists there. Really amazing people!

These events are really special to me and I’ll tell you why. One of the pieces I had there was a leaf, in dark clay. I’ve been using these leaves for a while as they come from the plant I got back in 2021 when my father died in Brazil and I couldn’t be there because of the pandemic. Coincidentally I was working at the Show & Sale when this guy, without knowing I had made the piece, asked me if he could just take it from the wall and go to the cashier. We started talking and he was excited to meet the artist. I told him the story of the leaf and, believe it or not, he wanted to buy it as a gift for a good friend who was hosting a celebration event to honor someone she had lost recently. We were both very grateful to have met each other there!

Anyways, my store is open again! Check it out! I’ll be online a bit as the Needham Farmers Market where I usually sell during the summer won’t happen this year.

My next market will the New England Flower Show organized by the Massachusetts Horticulture Society in September (09/18 to 09/20) at Garden at Elm Bank (900 Washington Street - Wellesley - MA). Mark on your calendars! More information will come.

Meanwhile, happy spring and enjoy the summer! I can’t wait for it!
